IMPERIAL HILLBILLY (BILLY BRIGGS SPECIAL)

(406 downloads)

Download this episode (115 min)

This week another foray into the big label Hillbilly genre, this time with the IMPERIAL 8000 series.

Being a little lacking in anywhere near a comprehensive collection of the label sharing a name with margarine, I bring in the big guns with my ample collection of my long time hero Amarillo's long forgotten son Billy Briggs.

From Chew Tobacco Rag through to Dip Snuff stomp we give you a man size helping of the man who was not only the first to put legs to a steel guitar, but also probably the last to have a minor hit about Tobacco chewing!

Joining myself & Billy this week are Van Howard, Harry Rodcay, Earl Songer, Pete Lane, Merle Kilgore, Ed Camp & other people less camp!

Still remember it as if it were just yesterday... 10 years ago, about this time, when I found my first Billy Briggs disc on TIME out in West Odessa.
